red flag flowers was recorded with a team of musicians in Thunder Bay and Sudbury from September 2025 to March 2026. The EP is a tribute to the breakups Houston has had in their 20s, with each song telling the story of a “different type of relationship” or “situation” they went through.

With its loft parties, soundtrack, and La Fin du Monde six-packs, the film does an excellent job of capturing the youthful energy of Montreal’s heyday, but, like most bildungsroman romantic comedies, it falls victim to the genre’s tropes.

For their summer show this year, Triple Threat Talent will present Evil Dead: The Musical. Artistic director Tegin Menei, a self-proclaimed horror fan, is also excited this campy musical will launch the Young Directors Initiative (YDI), a scholarship program for students planning to pursue a career in the arts.

There’s excitement in the air as the home of the Thunder Bay Border Cats, Port Arthur Stadium, prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary this July 14. That kind of enthusiasm is nothing new for the iconic facility though, as it has hosted a long list of celebrated sporting and cultural events and other festivities over the decades. 

There’s an old Vietnamese proverb, “Đi một ngày đàng, học một sàng khôn,” that roughly translates to, “if you travel for a day, you can learn a basketful of wisdom.” This proverb definitely rang true for Phuong (Julie) Pham while she was in Vietnam and taking a course on how to authentically make the country’s iconic bánh mì sandwich.

Locally, this important annual occasion was honoured at the National Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow and community event with a sunrise ceremony, spectacular pow wow, delicious food vendors, local crafters and artisans, and a community feast on Anemki Wajiw at the Pow Wow Grounds (also known as Mount McKay).

Over this past weekend, the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community came together at International Friendship Gardens for a day of culture, community, and celebration at Thunder Pride’s gathering in honour of Pride Month.

"I always say that there's two types of photos. There's photos that you make and there's photos that you take," says professional photographer and videographer Chad Kirvan, whose work encompasses everything from staged photography like corporate headshots and family portraits to more candid shots at concerts and festivals. Regardless of the occasion, Kirvan has mastered the ability to capture people authentically.

As a part of their 65th anniversary, the Thompson family unveiled the latest expansion of the market, Snacks & Scoops, a food trailer that will bring ice cream, milkshakes, and sundaes to their parking lot this summer. 

For singer/songwriter Kris Tonkens, the creative act is a political one. Their newest EP Predators, which was released back in March, is a political and personal introspection, reflecting on their private life, the struggles of living in a femme-presenting body, and rising political tensions in North America.

There’s a new food truck hitting the streets in Thunder Bay. Gluttony opened last month, serving up inventive comfort food and globally inspired dishes, and for owner and operator Jessica Ward, the truck is fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Throughout the album, the lead guitars navigate their way from a distinctly country sound, with southern twang and intricate picking, to a more classic rock crunch, masterfully blending the two genres.

For two weeks in June, Co.Lab Gallery + Arts Centre will host Earth Tone, a solo exhibition by local ceramic artist Georgia Wilkins. The show features pieces Wilkins made over two months at Medalta, a museum and contemporary ceramics centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta, through its renowned International Artist in Residence program.

Drew Hayden Taylor is a bit of a character, but that’s a great fit for Thunder Bay Public Library’s Indigenous Author Series. So far this year, TBPL has hosted three evenings, providing a creative space for readers to connect with upcoming and established Indigenous writers working in a variety of genres and styles.

People regret tattoos for different reasons; perhaps those images are tied to past relationships, beliefs, losses, or periods of time that are different from who they are now. Tattoo removal or cover-up is almost always an option, but it begs the question: if you remove the tattoo, is that truly rewriting your past? Or does it simply erase the reminder?
