There’s an old Vietnamese proverb, “Đi một ngày đàng, học một sàng khôn,” that roughly translates to, “if you travel for a day, you can learn a basketful of wisdom.” This proverb definitely rang true for Phuong (Julie) Pham while she was in Vietnam and taking a course on how to authentically make the country’s iconic bánh mì sandwich.

As a part of their 65th anniversary, the Thompson family unveiled the latest expansion of the market, Snacks & Scoops, a food trailer that will bring ice cream, milkshakes, and sundaes to their parking lot this summer. 

There’s a new food truck hitting the streets in Thunder Bay. Gluttony opened last month, serving up inventive comfort food and globally inspired dishes, and for owner and operator Jessica Ward, the truck is fulfilling a lifelong dream.

There’s an off-menu dish at The Tilted Turret Pinball Pub that regulars speak of with the kind of reverence usually reserved for secret levels or high-score legends. It’s called “The Steph,” named for the pub’s longest-running server, who has been holding down the floor with easy confidence for more than two and a half years.

PACC Restaurant, a small-but-spirited take-out window, opened last month, and has already begun carving out its own place in the community’s heart.

The evening married fine dining with an exploration of the country’s French heritage, as FWHP’s interpreters guided diners through the evening with palate cleansers of song, dance, and storytelling between courses.
