Slowing Daylight, digital illustration, boy Roland
By Grace De Prophetis
In the slowing daylight, in the shadows of the fire,
two skins coalesce:
the rough, cracked hands of a man,
and the hewn steel of a made knife.
Both glint in the setting sun and the ashes of the stoked wood,
both carve into one another as the lake laps into another midnight –
a darkness in the east so obsolete –
but the same dark view seen by each.
