Stuff We Like: For Date Night

By Kelsey Raynard

February is here and love is in the air. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to celebrate our romantic relationships, whether that be with tried-and-true classics like chocolates and flowers or through something novel like a new, adventurous experience. However, this month and every month, we welcome the chance to honour all the lovely relationships in our lives, whether romantic, familial, friendship, platonic, or otherwise. So take that special someone out on a date to show them how much they mean to you; you won’t regret it. Here is Stuff We Like for date night.

Flowers | Thuja Floral Design | 285 Bay Street | $65–95

Fresh flowers are a great way to brighten someone’s day, especially in this season of snow and cold. Surprise your date with a classic vase arrangement from Thuja Floral Design, available in two colour schemes (neutral and designer’s choice) and three sizes. Bonus: they will last long after date night ends.

Chocolates | Bloomers and the Brownhouse | 330 Archibald Street South | $Various

Sweeten up your next date night with chocolates from Bloomers and the Brownhouse. From boxes of decadent truffles and pralines to local delights from Chocolate Cow, Bloomers and the Brownhouse has a wide selection of chocolate treats to surprise your date with—and we won’t judge you if you sneak a couple for yourself.

Couples Massage | Pure Salon Day Spa | 820 Red River Road | $160/hour

Spend some quality time with your loved one with a couple’s massage from Pure Salon and Day Spa. This is a great way to treat that special someone to a period of uninterrupted rest and relaxation while also enjoying some one-on-one bonding time. A one-hour couples massage is $160, with 30-minute and 90-minute options also available.

TBSO’s Candlelit Valentine | Urban Abbey | tbso.ca | $37.50–75

Is there anything more romantic than classical music and a candlelit date? Treat that special someone to an unforgettable date night at Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra’s Candlelit Valentine concert on February 14. Warning: this intimate event is going to set the bar high for future date nights. Tickets available on TBSO’s website.

Sleeping Giant Skating Trail | Sleeping Giant Provincial Park | R.R. #1, Highway 587 | $18/day pass

Who says dates have to be at night? Plan a fun day date at the outdoor skating rink at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Located inside the Marie Louise campground, this maintained 300-metre loop provides the perfect backdrop to spend some quality time outdoors. Day use is available from 8 am to 10 pm and regular parking fees apply.

NOSFA Film Screening | SilverCity Cinema | 850 May Street North | $10/ticket

Going to the movies is one of the most classic date night ideas, and for good reason. This month, you can take your date to two screenings from the North of Superior Film Association: Rebuilding on February 11 and A Private Life on February 25. Check out NOSFA’s website for more information on these unique film experiences.

Parfait Women’s Bodysuit | The Perfect Fit |16 Court Street South | $89

For many, lingerie is a way to make ourselves feel confident, powerful, and sexy. Show yourself some love this Valentine’s Day with cute new undergarments from Perfect Fit. With inclusive sizing (all the way up to 42L), a wire-free design, and a flattering silhouette, the Parfait women’s bodysuit has everyone covered on date night and beyond.

Pottery Making Class | The Hive | 71 Algoma Street South | $65

If your person’s love language is quality time, why not treat them to a fun date night out? Channel your inner Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze at the Love Bug Luminary Workshop on February 13 at The Hive. This fun, local pottery workshop includes one café beverage and one take-home pottery piece. Check out their website for more details.
