Delicatessen of Death: Killer

There’s no better way to yank yourself out of hibernation than with Killer’s new album, Delicatessen of Death. Not that our premier local thrash trio have really let us rest—these 10 tracks come hot on the heels of their recent covers collection, Cover Me…I’m Going In. As much fun as that collection was, this band is too much their own beast to hide behind the songs of others; each of these 10 new tracks is an unapologetic party made to dominate local stages, with a flurry of breakneck riffs, howled vocals, and clattering drums. Starting off with “Three Spirits,” which is as much of a mission statement—or is that a warning?—as these guys will give you, Delicatessen whips by with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it hooks and irreverent lyrics that’ll keep you bellowing along long into the night. Highlights are plentiful because each song is stuffed with giddy moments of thrashing goodness, from lurching start-stop stomping to squalling solos, all tied together with some of the silliest lyrical odes to masked serial killers and late-night shopping channel detritus you’ll ever hear. Open the windows, let the sunshine in, and share Killer’s latest with the neighborhood—let them know spring is here!
