Annual Competition in Support of Camp Quality
By Mikael Mintenko
This year marks the 6th annual Thunder Bay’s Strongest Man competition in support of Camp Quality. But don’t let the title fool you—the event also offers competitions for women and children to claim the crown of Thunder Bay’s strongest woman and strongest child. This sensational family-friendly event offers live music by local favorites Three Kord Killers, a licensed patio for adults, a play area for children, and a barbecue for all. There will be free swag, balloons, clowns, raffles, and a live wrestling exhibition by Primus Wrestling. Once the event is complete, adults are welcome to head inside and enjoy an evening at the Wayland, with drink and food specials and more live music. For those who prefer to stay outside and enjoy the summer air, grab a seat on the patio and watch the sun go down as you enjoy your favorite beverage and appetizer.
The event is the brainchild of Gary Paulucci and Brandy Pulice, owners of the Wayland, who wanted to bring together the family and friends of their Westfort community. Interest in the event has skyrocketed, seeing a yearly increase in attendance, with people always asking when the next event is taking place. Aside from Gary and Brandy, no one puts in more hard work than Kateri Skaarup, the event’s MC, who works tirelessly during each year’s event and is an integral part of the planning process. Once the event is complete, the team sits down and diligently begins to plan for the next year’s event.
The Thunder Bay’s Strongest Man event begins at 2pm on August 6 at Paulucci’s Wayland Bar & Grill at 1019 Gore St W. Check out the event page on Facebook for Thunder Bay’s Strongest Man 2016 Supporting Camp Quality.
