SABLE, fABLE: Bon Iver

Bon Iver is hard to categorize but easy to recognize, with a distinctly unique sound and immediately identifiable voice. His latest album, SABLE, fABLE, is a 12-track collection of emotive, introspective songs guaranteed to get you in your feels. SABLE, fABLE is more layered and musically complex than his earlier piano- and guitar-forward albums; with a slightly faster pace and synthesized, chopped-up instrumentals throughout, Bon Iver veers into indie electro-folk territory. SABLE, fABLE starts off more familiarly, with simplistic but impactful tracks “Things” and “S P E Y S I D E,” reminiscent of his mega hits “Skinny Love” and “Beach Baby.” Then, the album gains momentum and speed in the middle with tracks “Everything is Peaceful Love” and “Walk Home” incorporating a stronger drumline and R&B elements. Closing track “Au Revoir” is a twinkly, dreamy conclusion to the catalogue. Ultimately, Bon Iver will always be in a lane of his own, but this album demonstrates his ability to diversify and still deliver.
