Pas de Deux

By Marianne Jones

Snow travels a great distance,

coming to rest at last

on the hospitable bushes.

How generously the branches stretch

to accommodate its weight!

How gracefully they arch, like dancers

or gymnasts, bending to receive

snow buds that bloom

on their reaching fingers.

How the snow shows its gratitude

by adorning their starkness!
