Hope We Have Fun: Mt. Joy

‘Tis the season for festivals, fun, and folk music, and Mt. Joy’s fourth LP, Hope We Have Fun, boasts 13 tracks that sound as good in headphones as they do on a festival stage. Hope We Have Fun, like Mt. Joy’s other albums, is a blend of indie, folk, and rock. The first few tracks, “More More More” and “Coyote,” feel edgier and more rock-like, with expansive drums, loud vocals, and deep bass lines. The middle of the album is quintessentially folk, with plucky guitars and quirky vocals in tracks “Pink Lady” and “God Loves Weirdos.” The album ends on a familiar note, with songs “She Wants To Go Dancing” and the title track, relying on the indie sounds Mt. Joy is known for. Ultimately, Hope We Have Fun gives listeners songs to stomp to, to sing to, to sway to, and songs that will surely make their way on to your summer folk playlist.
