Two-Day Cultural Gathering Set to Return this Summer

At Marina Park this summer, Thunder Bay’s waterfront will once again host Afro‑Vibe Fest, a two-day cultural gathering centred on African, Caribbean, and multicultural expression. Returning for its second edition, organizers see the festival not only as a community celebration but also as a space for cultural visibility and exchange.

“Afro-Vibe Fest is more than a festival. It is a celebration of African Caribbean and multicultural culture in Thunder Bay,” says Liliane Breiland, concept originator and festival director. “It brings people together through music, food, dance, fashion, art, activities, and community connection.”

Following such a positive response to last year’s event, Breiland decided to bring the festival back. “Families came together, youth, seniors, newcomers, local residents, visitors, and community partners all shared the same space with joy, pride, and respect,” she says. “For 2026, our goal is to make Afro‑Vibe bigger, stronger, and more organized.”

This year organizers say the festival will include live music and DJs, African and Caribbean vendors, a cultural parade, dance performances and contests, fashion and market vendors, kids and community activities, and cultural presentations.

Breiland also points out that the festival is also about representation. “Many African and Caribbean families in Thunder Bay want their children to see the culture celebrated publicly and proudly,” she says. “Afro‑Vibe Fest gives our youth a place to feel seen, valued, and included. At the same time, it gives the community a chance to learn, connect, taste new food, enjoy music, dance, and celebrate together.”

Afro‑Vibe Fest 2026 will take place at Marina Park on July 11–12, 12 pm to midnight. For more information, visit afro-vibefest.ca
