CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT SAT. SEPT. 12, 2026
Bach and Boismortier
We’re excited to invite you to the opening concert of our 48th season. Two ever-popular Consortium soloists, cellist Peter Cosbey and flutist Doris Dungan, will take us back to our Baroque roots as they perform stunningly-gorgeous works for their instruments. Peter will entrance us with two of J. S. Bach’s monumental solo cello suites. Doris will his play his lovely partita for unaccompanied flute in A minor, as well as one of her favourite works, a solo flute sonata in the same key by his son C.P.E. Bach. They’ll be joined by bassoonist Aviner Hartwick in elegant duos by Boismortier and Corrette, prolific French Baroque composers who championed the flute but also expanded the repertoire of the bassoon, treating the instrument more virtuosically and expressively. Cello and bassoon sonorities blend well together.
There will be a ballot draw at intermission for a pair of tickets to any Magnus Theatre production.
Our concert is generously co-sponsored by Tbaytel; Lakehead Printing; Hilda Postenka; Jaro Kotalik and Louisa Pedri.
