AANIKOOBIDOON II

Stringing together past, present and future

curated by Melissa Twance and Shelby Gagnon

A beading exhibition at Co.Lab Gallery, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s Aanikoobijiganag Bead Symposium

Aanikoobidoon means “to string things together.” In its second iteration, this exhibition brings together Métis and Anishinaabe artists to celebrate the relationship between our peoples and the plant world. For generations, we’ve relied on the plants around us for food, medicine, and inspiration. Through their art, these 14 artists weave stories of connection, healing, and tradition, featuring work from:

Caitlyn Bird

Belmo

Alicia Brink

Cher Chapman

Sheila Demerah

Nancy Gouliquer

Margaret Firlotte

Sara Gilbert

Katie Longboat

Mary Magiskan

Helen Pelletier

Leanna Marshall

Amber Sandy

Zoey Therriault

and Jamie Thompson

We're pleased to present a special pop-up market as part of the Anikoobijiganag Bead Symposium, featuring local artists, makers, and artisans. Expect to see beadwork, ribbon skirts, quill work, paintings and prints, and more. Support local!
This exhibition and craft market has been so gorgeously supported by the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, Curling Canada, Goods & Co Market and has been a welcomed event coordinated in partnership with the Thunder Bay Art Gallery's Aanikoobijiganag Bead Symposium. Miigwech!
