An Evening With Some of Thunder Bay’s Finest

An Evening With…AEWFeb28-Poster-WEBWiggins Pro-Ductions will be hosting Friday, February 28 at the Foundry (242 Red River Road). The night will feature an eclectic mix of local talent, including Don’t You(,) Mean People? (post rock), Nick Sherman (acoustic folk), and Elle Kay (singer/songwriter).

Don’t You(,) Mean People? is a local post-rock trio made up of Mack Davis (bass), Taylor Price (guitar) and Alex Cummins (drums). Since forming in 2011, these three gentlemen have released a six-track album, titled EP!!, which is available at their shows. This past summer, the guys toured the southern Ontario circuit and are currently playing making their rounds in the local downtown scene. This spring, DYMP will be gearing up for a new musical release as well as planning another Canadian tour.
Nick Sherman’s songs are characterized by an uneasy, yet always fluid transition between unabashed joy and sorrow. This tension between major and minor is rooted in Sherman’s distant memories of his grandfather strumming a guitar in a cabin on the trap line or back at home in the community—the comfort of revisiting these moments are intertwined with the knowledge that they will never happen again.

Elle Kay is an emerging singer-songwriter who writes and performs songs about the people and places that inspire her. With piano and voice as her primary instruments, she draws from a number of genres including jazz, rockabilly, folk, and blues to create original material. Kay quickly became involved in the Thunder Bay music scene as a backup singer and studio musician playing piano and trumpet. She has been recognized as a performer with a number of acts throughout the city.
