Itʼs time to show that CBC Thunder Bay has some awesome friends. Recently, CBC announced cuts that will have a big impact on local programming. Northwestern Ontarioʼs afternoon show, Voyage North, is slated for cancellation. The plan is to replace it with a pan-northern show based in Sudbury. It will mean the loss of nearly half of our regional programming, based in Thunder Bay. What kind of friends would we be if we let that happen?
Without reliable federal funding, we know that CBC has to make tough decisions. But managers still have latitude in how they make those decisions. We need to rally together to tell them that amalgamating programming across a huge and diverse region is not an acceptable way to save money.
Join the Friends of CBC Thunder Bay on Saturday May 10 at the Bean Fiend (194 Algoma St.), between 9 am and 5 pm. We’ll have some nifty postcards to send and email stations ready to go, so that you can let your MPs, and the managers at CBC know how you feel. Drop by, meet other friends of CBC and help us let the decision-makers know that public broadcasting matters in northwestern Ontario!
