The City of Thunder Bay Archives is seeking community input as it continues to build an online exhibit honouring prominent women of Thunder Bay history.
The Archives division will add new biographies to the online exhibit during Women’s History Month, which is held in October each year. Community nominations of women to be included in the exhibit will be accepted between May 11 (Mother’s Day) and July 1.
“The Women’s History Month online exhibit was inaugurated in October 2013,” said Pamela Cain, Heritage Researcher. “It’s since been established as an ongoing, annual project, and we’re pleased to once again ask the members of our community to contribute by nominating prominent women who have contributed to the history of Thunder Bay, and who should be celebrated through inclusion in this year’s exhibit.”
Past exhibits have included recognizable names such as Mary Louise Black and Catherine Vickers, as well as lesser-known women who contributed to the arts, sports, and politics.
Those submitting a nomination are asked to include an image of the nominee, a short biography, as well as any other sources of information that outline the nominee’s contributions to Thunder Bay. All facts in the biography must be verifiable.

Submissions for the 2014 exhibit must be made by July 1. Any nominations received after that date will be considered for the 2015 exhibit.
