The Back Court Club is hosting their 7th Annual Lobster Dinner in support of the Lakehead University men’s basketball team on Sunday, October 18. This is an important fundraiser that helps support the ongoing costs of hosting a competitive team at the university.
Each year, the allocated budget to the men’s basketball program covers only a portion of the needed finances to compete with the top teams in the Ontario conference. The funds raised by the Back Court Club directly benefit the players through scholarship opportunities, supporting additional meal per diems on road trips, covering non-conference travel in the pre-season to prepare for CIS competition, and more. The club also supports community programs, such as Shelterhouse and youth basketball clinics.
Since the inception of the Back Court Club in September, 2009, the men’s basketball team has won back to back OUA West regular season titles, made four consecutive appearances in the CIS Final 8 Championship Tournament, won LU’s first ever OUA Championship in men’s basketball, and won a CIS National Silver Medal.
The Lobster Dinner will be held at the Italian Cultural Centre, 132 South Algoma Street. The symposium and oyster shucking bar will open at 5:00 PM , and dinner will be served at 5:30 PM. Fun games and a silent auction will be held throughout the evening. Tickets are $75 each.
