Tuesday, June 4 saw the return of Ohio black thrash band Skeletonwitch with openers Caym and local bands Tapout, Slavestate and Last Boss. There were many familiar faces at the show and, although the turnout was less than stellar, Skeletonwitch and Caym put on a festival-level show. As a member of Skeletonwitch said, “every night can’t be Ozzfest.”

Skeletonwitch is signed to Prosthetic Records and play fast black metal. They formed in 2003 and have been touring almost constantly since then, hitting both small and large metal markets across the globe. Their sound is reminiscent of Goatwhore, another American metal band that has played in Thunder Bay several times. Skeletonwitch last played here in 2010 with High on Fire, and since then they have picked up a new drummer (Dustin Boltjes) and released Forever Abomination (2011). The band is set to release Serpents Unleashed—their fifth studio album—this fall and are planning to return to Thunder Bay in November. If you are a fan of metal, check out their show—they will undoubtedly provide yet another headbanging heavy metal assault.
