Just a reminder that brightly coloured paper and foil gift wrap cannot be recycled due to extremely high ink content in the paper. Discarded wrap cannot be placed in the paper products blue bag with fine paper, flyers and boxboard.
Recool Canada picks up recycling at the curb and at the depots. “They will not collect recycling bags that contain wrapping paper,” says Jason Sherband, Coordinator Solid Waste Diversion and Recycling – Roads Division. “Wrappings must be put out with your regular garbage.”
Residents can help reduce the volume of paper wasted by packing away wrap you receive and using it next year. Other options that are growing in popularity are fabric gift bags that can be re-used year after year, or reusable paper gift bags. Other containers such as tins and decorated baskets are also great options.
