Thunder Bay’s Sleeping Giant Brewing Company took home some serious hardware at last night’s annual Ontario Brewing Awards held in Toronto. Celebrating the best of craft beers in the province, the local brewery was honoured for four of its local brews, recognized for the following:
• Light Category: GOLD- Grassroots Lager
• Imperial Stout Category: SILVER- Love & Happiness Imperial Stout
• Amber Lager Category: SILVER- Amber Lager (First Amber Lager ever brewed by Sleeping Giant Brewing Company)
• Blonde Ale Category- SILVER- Northern Logger
“Our team definitely earned their beer; this is a direct result of our hard-working, dedicated staff. Sleeping Giant Brewing Company has a growing reputation for the quality and creativity of our beer, and it’s an amazing recognition to be acknowledged amongst the best of the best in Ontario,” says Kyle Mulligan, Head Brewer of Sleeping Giant Brewing Company. “There were a lot of great beers, creating tough competition, so this really attests to the superior quality of our product. Sleeping Giant Brewing Company’s craft beers are truly northern, all inspired by Lake Superior, which creates easy drinking, full-flavoured brew.”
The annual awards highlight the top breweries in the province in 49 categories. Nominations came in for over 120 breweries from across Ontario.
Sleeping Giant Brewing Company opened its doors in 2012, and continues to experience growth in the Craft Beer Industry. Now listed as the 25th largest brewery in Ontario, the company employs 32 staff. The 12,000 square-foot facility located in Thunder Bay, features a brewery, Tap Room and retail space. All of the award-winning beers will be available in the storefront and Tap Room for tasting.
