Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area and Preliminary Biological Surveys
Join Doug Tate, Ecologist Team Leader with Parks Canada responsible for the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area. Doug will talk about the NMCA and describe the geography, the mandate and share some of the ongoing activities to document and understand the shoreline ecosystems and marine environment within its boundaries and how it relates to other conservation efforts on Lake Superior’s spectacular coast. Work in 2018 has focussed on biological inventory of islands and nearshore waters in Nipigon Bay, Rossport area, and islands south of Black Bay Peninsula. An initial assessment of the arctic-alpine plant community of Lake Superior’s north shore, as represented on the NMCA islands, will be featured. This talk is located at Lunan Hall, St. Paul’s United Church, 349 Waverley Street at 7:00pm. This event is free and open to the public.
