Summer Celebration Opening Party – an evening of artist talks, food, music and a bonfire.
Join us Friday, June 24, 6-10pm, for our Summer Celebration Opening Party where we will celebrate the opening of Woodland POP! and I, Voyageur and summertime!
Woodland POP! is a group exhibition presenting new expressions of Woodland Style. Works alive within the scope of the exhibition include visual art, digital painting, NFTs, 2spirit and queer aesthetics, tattooing, contemporary beading, and more. This exhibition marvels at the meaning and influence of Woodland style in work of emerging and mid-career contemporary Indigenous artists: Blake Angeconeb, Christian Chapman, Michel Dumont, Shelby Gagnon, Sharon Goodison, Quinn Hopkins, Bree Island, Ryan Pooman, Fallon Simard, Rihkee Strapp, and Jonathan Thunder.
I, Voyageur: In Search of Frances Anne Hopkins features Canadian artist and modern-day “voyageur” Naomi Harris. In the summer of 2018, she embarked on a seventy-day canoe trip travelling on the very same fur trade route that Frances Anne Hopkins had taken 150 years earlier. Using analog, digital, video, and alternative photographic processes, she creates a new vision of Frances Anne.
Our party begins at 6pm, with artist talks starting at 7pm. Some food will be available. Grab a FREE taco in a bag by the Bannock Lady (while supplies last). Epic Cones will be on site with ice cream selections ranging in price from $4-7.50 – CASH ONLY.
