Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior (CLLS) is looking for artists who would like to use the unique, quiet, and natural setting of Porphyry Point Island Lighthouse as inspiration to develop their art. The lighthouse is located 15km east of Silver Islet on Black Bay and this opportunity is open to all artists, such as writers, sculptors, painters, sketch artists, and photographers.

The application process involves the presentation of a small portfolio to be judged by a selection panel of CLLS Board and your peers. Chosen candidates will be provided with: transportation to-and-from the Island, accommodations in the staff quarters at the lighthouse, and studio/gallery space for a mutually agreed period between one to two weeks during the summer.

As a resident at the lighthouse your daily responsibilities will be to share your work with visitors and possibly provide a short art lesson/workshop for visiting children and family groups. At the end of the residency, artists will be asked to donate a piece or part of their work to be auctioned off at our annual Lighthouse Fundraising Dinner.

Currently there is only one position open, but CLLS is entertaining future possibilities as the program develops, and more funds become available.

The chosen artist will be provided with transportation to and from the island, living accommodations and studio/gallery space. Visit clls.ca for further information (an online application form is available).
