On Saturday March 9, join Rainy River First Nations author, Al Hunter, in celebrating the release of his newest book of poetry, Beautiful Razor: love poems and other lies. Accompanied by musician J.C. Wilkinson, Hunter will share a reading from his book, and host a book signing and reception at Chapters from 2-4:00 pm. Hunter is an accomplished Anishinaabe writer, teacher, activist and spoken word performer and is a former Chief of Rainy River First Nation. Beautiful Razor is his third book of poetry.

Here is an excerpt from his poem “The Bird Who Was Afraid to Fly”

The wind blew in
Bits of cloth and feathers and fallen leaves
The hoarded dust of years
Over-accumulated wounds
The cold wind numbed
Shaking his feathers of the gathering snow
The little bird
Looked back one more time
At the only place
He ever felt like a bird
Then flew
